- Eligible Course: You must have an offer to study a full-time course at a licensed Student Sponsor (an institution approved by the Home Office).
- Approved Provider: Ensure your institution is a recognized and licensed sponsor.
Financial Requirements
- Proof of Funds: You need to show you have enough money to cover tuition fees and living expenses. The amount required varies depending on your location and the length of your course.
- Living Costs: Typically, you need to show £1,334 per month for living expenses (or £1,023 per month in London).
- Tuition Fees: Evidence of sufficient funds to cover at least the first year of your course.
English Language Requirement
- English Proficiency: You might need to prove your English language skills through tests like IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent, or by meeting other requirements set by your institution.
Health Requirements
- TB Test: Depending on your country of residence, you may need to provide a tuberculosis (TB) test certificate. This is applicable if you are from a country listed by the UK government.
Immigration History
- Previous Visas: If you’ve been refused a visa in the past or had any immigration issues, you might need to provide additional documentation.
2. Application Process
1. Obtain a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
- CAS: Your institution will issue a CAS, a unique reference number, once you have accepted an offer and met all requirements. This is crucial for your visa application.
2. Prepare Your Documents
You will need:
- A valid passport.
- Your CAS number.
- Proof of financial means.
- Proof of English language proficiency.
- TB test results (if applicable).
- Previous academic qualifications and certificates.
3. Apply Online
- Application: Apply for the Student visa online via the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website.
- Fee: The visa application fee is typically £363 if applying from outside the UK. Additional fees apply if you need to use priority or super-priority services.
4. Biometrics and Interview
- Biometrics: You will need to provide your biometric information (fingerprints and a photograph) at a visa application center.
- Interview: Some applicants may be required to attend an interview.
5. Visa Decision
- Processing Time: It usually takes around 3 weeks for a decision on your visa application.
- Decision: You will be notified of the decision, and if approved, you’ll receive a vignette (sticker) in your passport, allowing you to enter the UK.
3. After Arrival
- BRP (Biometric Residence Permit): Once in the UK, you’ll need to collect your BRP from a local Post Office within 10 days of your arrival.
